The "Joe's" Restaurant Tradition

The first Joe’s restaurant, named Original Joe’s, was opened in San Francisco in 1937 and was instantly popular. This was a time when big booths, tuxedoed waiters, cloth napkins, and counter seating were all the rage.

Hearty portions of thick steaks and giant hamburgers were served alongside traditional Italian foods like veal picata and chicken cacciatore. The signature dish was a mixture of
eggs, sautéed ground beef, spinach, garlic onions and spices
-- dubbed a "Joe's Special." Click here for the recipe.

Half Moon Bay Joe's - a New Tradition

Although the tuxedoes have been retired, Half Moon Bay Joe’s, now a landmark on the coast, carries on the tradition with it’s own, updated version of the original. What hasn’t changed is the emphasis on hearty portions of Italian and American foods at reasonable prices.

No one goes home hungry at Half Moon Bay Joe’s.

The restaurant has that special feel of those days when steakhouses outnumbered sushi bars. However, the hardy
food tradition is updated at Half Moon Bay Joe's with the
finest and freshest ingredients available.

In addition, there are a number of new specialties, using
coastside food products and fresh produce.
Enjoy the new dishes, or savor old favorites, like a Joe’s Special, still a popular choice at Half Moon Bay Joe’s. Click here for the recipe.
